A new edition of the Aeneid requires not only a systematic and reliable assessment of the text but also a satisfactory and if possible complete description of the manuscripts transmission.Here not only were the seven Late Antique codices studied anew but the recensio was also extended by drawing on sources from the Carolingian Age only some of which were incorporated by earlier editors.
